In appearance this is a full bodied wine, dense ruby red with a hint of purple. It displays high viscosity on the walls of the glass. It delivers aromas of dark plum, toasted almonds, vanilla and spice. There are mouth-coating layers of sweetness, savoury and spice: blackberries, plum, black olives, cinnamon, that together with the tannins and acid, rise to tame the challenge of the alcohol.

The 2015 Vintage Season:
2015 was a great year. There were good spring rains. The summer was mostly dry, however a few short rain events maintained soil moisture until harvest. Favourable weather conditions meant that minimal fungicide treatment was required on the vines. Mourvedre is a late ripening variety and these grapes were picked in late March, a month later than the nearby shiraz.
Our Mourvedre block is situated adjacent to the Grenache, on the rocky hillside exposed to the north and west, 300m above sea level. it is hit by winds and hot afternoon summer sun. These unirrigated vines were planted in 1999 and, since that time, their roots have sunk deep into the hillside, providing sufficient summer moisture to produce vines yielding 1 to 1.5 tonnes to the acre. The resulting fruit is very clean, with concentrated flavours and great varietal character.
The fruit was harvested in late March 2015 and gently crushed. Fermentation occurred in open vats with occasional hand plunging, and then the must was basket pressed. The wine was aged for 16 months in old French oak barriques and prior to bottling in August 2016.
A medium bodied wine of ruby red colour. The nose has red fruit aromas mingled with leafy forest floor. The palate displays plum, mushroom and crushed flowers; the flavours held in place by gentle tannins and natural acidity.
