New cellar door – we have evolved through COVID

July 2022

So many things have changed over the past few years including our humble tin shed which originally incorporated a small winery (for our retirement lifestyle), a garage and a future cellar door.

With many expansions to ‘the shed’, since first erected in 2009 and the opening of our quaint cellar door in 2016, we have certainly come a long way in our journey into a ‘retirement lifestyle’!

With the completion of a brand new 100% off-grid Cellar Door building with bistro and event spaces, a new barrel room, and winery extension with large outdoor winemaking capacity, and two new outdoor alfresco wine garden areas – we have been humbled and grateful for the beautiful comments of past and new patrons who are in awe of the building even coming up the driveway.

The challenges we faced during construction in 2020 of a large commercial building that was sustainable now and into the future was important.  Utilising recycled timbers wherever possible, creating a beautiful contemporary space which was comfortable - but not pretentious,  was created by a labour of love and dedication of not only ourselves, but our Project Manager Rohan Vahland of Red Cubes Constructions and the many dedicated, passionate regional and Melbourne based tradesmen that help build this special place we enjoy every day, including my brother Gavin and nephew Trent for supporting us in stage one of the winery extension and wine storage area working here in any spare moment they could when materials became available before harvest in March 2021.

Covid19 challenges of building supply delays, lockdowns of tradesmen and material shortages was a problem at times, but we got through and can now appreciate all the hard work that has gone into the place where we live, work and enjoy a wine or a beer and meals with our customers, family and friends.

So, to all the dedicated team of tradesmen, with a special thank you to Rohan from Red Cubes, and Daniel from Regrained Timber Creations who continues to make special tables and other beautiful timber art for our cellar door – we appreciated your efforts and enjoyed your company while were here.
